U.S. recognizes Michigan same-sex couple marriages

By The Associated Press

This article was published March 28, 2014 at 9:13 a.m.

DETROIT — U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has extended federal recognition to the Michigan marriages of about 300 same-sex couples that took place before a federal appeals court put those unions on hold.

Holder's action on Friday enables the government to extend eligibility for federal benefits to the couples. It came two days after Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder said Michigan won't recognize the marriages performed last weekend. U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman struck down the gay marriage ban the day before.

Snyder's move closed the door to certain state benefits reserved solely for married couples.

Four counties granted licenses before the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ordered a temporary halt. The stay was extended indefinitely on Tuesday.

Sad? What is sad is that Holder and the Federal Government have thrown the Constitution out the window and taken away state rights.

Every person has the same set of rights. In the case of marriage, you can marry one person of the opposite gender as both God's Law and Natural Law illustrate.

You do not have the "right" to "marry" someone of the same gender, an animal, a child, or an automobile.

It's no one's business who I marry...who you marry. The only reason anyone would care about this is because they are rigid and judgmental. We have a situation in our world today where people commit crimes and violence in the name of their idea of God, and when two people want to enter into a committed, loving relationship, we say "How sad." *That* is what is sad: the backwardness, fear, and loathing of the conservative religious types.

Answer this. Why was slavery not mentioned as one of the abominations in the old testament. Surly slavery was worst than eating shrimp. Just asking.

@SPA - Why should state sanctioned marriage be limited to two people? Why are you being so rigid and judgmental? Are you backwards, afraid, and some religious fundamentalist nut job?

Yeah, I second that. Polygamy should be legal. Pot should be legal. Prostitution should be legal. And LOL @ dude talking about a religious fundamentalist nut job.

@BillSmithFreeSpiritMan - Always good to hear from the current president of the UIA (Useful Idiots of America). But you forgot about sibling marriage.
.
@NoUserName - You do know prostitution is already legal in some states, don't you, NoUserName? If no, your statement makes you look like such a dumbarse. What substances do you include in the definition of "pot"? If you feel polygamy should be legal, would you limit the amount of spouses? As to your "business", if you pay taxes anything government sanctions is "your business". But if you are a societal leech who pays no taxes you are correct. Alas, I fear you are correct.
