Improve security at 1 World Trade Center, Schumer says

— Sen. Charles Schumer is calling for security improvements at the 1 World Trade Center after authorities said a series of daredevils sneaked in to the nation's tallest skyscraper in recent months.

Schumer has set a news conference Sunday to detail the specifics of what he is requesting.

The tower is the centerpiece of what is supposed to be one of the most closely guarded sites in the country.

But in the last two weeks, a New Jersey teenager was arrested in the building and charged with climbing to the top of the 1,776-foot spire. And three skydiving enthusiasts and an alleged accomplice turned themselves in to face charges stemming from a jump off the building in September.

A company that manages the building said the tower's security chief resigned Friday.
