Driver pursued from NLR to Benton after running stop sign, report says

A driver ran a stop sign and then wouldn't pull over for authorities, leading them all the way from North Little Rock to his home in Benton, according to a police report.

Scott Austin Nichols was ultimately arrested about 5 p.m. Sunday at his home in the 300 block of Ruth Street in Benton. He faces a preliminary charge of fleeing, the report said.

North Little Rock police say it started when an officer spotted Nichols' vehicle running a stop sign at East Broadway and North Plum streets and attempted to pull him over.

According to a report, the "traffic stop progressed into a pursuit" and other law enforcement agencies were notified. Police set up spike strips to try to deflate the vehicle's tires on two occasions, but Nichols drove around them, the report said.

The arresting officer wrote in the report he "followed Mr. Nichols all the way to his house in Benton," where he was arrested.

Nichols, who was initially being held with bail set at $1,500, was no longer listed as an inmate in the Pulaski County jail Monday morning.
