SWAC TEXAS SOUTHERN 9, ARK.-PINE BLUFF 8, 10 INN.

Texas Southern scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning and then held off a UAPB rally in the bottom of the inning to win the final game of the series in Pine Bluff. Texas Southern’s Jerry Ford had an RBI single in the ninth, then Robert Garza hit a two-run single in the 10th, Marquis Webb hit a sacrifice fly off Humberto Zavala and the Tigers (10-16, 7-3) added another run on a sacrifice bunt to go up 9-5. In the bottom of the 10th, Eddie Martinez and Isias Alcantar were each hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Mike Wieland scored on a fielder’s choice before Jerimiah Figueroa flew out to end the game with the potential tying run on third base.

SOUTHLAND CENTRAL ARKANSAS 8, STEPHEN F. AUSTIN 4

Chris Townsend’s RBI single in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and Central Arkansas (14-11, 5-4) scored three runs in the eighth to help UCA avoid a series sweep Sunday in Nacogdoches, Texas. Tyler Langley hit a two-run double in the eighth, then Doug Votolato drove him in with a double, and reliever Bryce Biggerstaff pitched three shutout innings. Mackenzie Handel drove in two runs for Stephen F. Austin (12-14, 4-5).

SUN BELT LA.-MONROE 16, UALR 5

Louisiana-Monroe battered UALR for 12 runs in the first three innings then added four runs in the bottom of the seventh for a mercy-rule victory that completed a series sweep in Monroe, La. Louisiana-Monroe (10-17, 3-5) scored two runs in the first and three in the second off starter Cameron Allen, then scored seven in the third off Jake Busiek and Josh Merrill. UALR (11-13, 1-8) was held to two hits through six innings before scoring all of its runs in the seventh.

ARKANSAS STATE 4, TEXAS STATE 1

Matt Burgess hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning, Bradley Wallace had his best start of the season and Arkansas State won its third consecutive Sun Belt Conference series with a victory in Jonesboro. Burgess also had an RBI single in the eighth while going 2 for 4 with 3 RBI for the Red Wolves (16-12, 7-2). Wallace held Texas State (16-11, 6-3) to 4 hits while striking out 3 in 7 shutout innings to improve to 2-2.
