LR's fire-damaged fitness center to reopen Friday

Part of the fire-damaged Jim Dailey Fitness & Aquatic Center will reopen Friday after being closed for more than a week for repairs.

The city of Little Rock said the center at 300 S. Monroe St. will reopen noon Friday, though the indoor aquatics area will remain shut. The basketball gym, fitness area, aerobic area and outdoor pool will be open.

Land fitness classes will resume their normal schedule while aquatic classes will start again May 12 in the outdoor pool.

The April 21 fire was described as small, but it damaged the sauna and parts of the locker rooms. No one was injured.

The city said it would give members a credit for the days the facility was shut.
