MEMPHIS — Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. says the city is ready to host members of the British royal family should they come for a wedding of a friend.
While not officially confirming Thursday whether Princes William and Harry will visit Memphis for a Saturday wedding, Wharton did say that the affair is a private event.
Wharton did not disclose what steps were being taken regarding the visit, including what security measures would be in place.
It's a busy weekend in Memphis, with the beginning of the annual Memphis in May tourist event. The Beale Street Music Festival is scheduled to take place this weekend.
Wharton did acknowledge that a possible visit from the royal family would be good public relations for the city and said he has received a deluge of calls from national and international press about the visit.
