Civil War events scheduled in state

Artillery demonstrations, a documentary film debut and other events scheduled during May have been sanctioned by the Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission in observance of the war’s 150th anniversary period.

Observances begin this weekend with artillery demonstrations and Civil War re-enactors taking part in Pine Bluff’s 175th anniversary observance today and Saturday in downtown Pine Bluff.

Also on Saturday, Arkansas 1800, a free seminar about American Indians in the Civil War and in Arkansas, is scheduled at the Jacksonville Museum of Arkansas Military History.

On May 9-10, the Fort Lincoln Freedom Fest will be held at the DeValls Bluff Community Center, featuring Civil War re-enactors, educational programs and family entertainment.

War in the ’60s, a documentary film about the Civil War in Arkansas, will make its debut May 11 at the Ron Robinson Theater in Little Rock’s River Market District.

“We Must Stand or Fall Alone,” an exhibit of Arkansas Civil War history, will be on display throughout May at the Delta Cultural Center in Helena-West Helena.
