Verizon donates $50,000 to Red Cross for tornado relief

Verizon has donated $50,000 to the local chapter of the American Red Cross to support tornado relief efforts, the company said Friday.

“Verizon employees have been working alongside us in these affected communities from the moment the storms passed and their presence has certainly helped support families, first responders and businesses during this emergency,” American Red Cross in Arkansas CEO Candace Carey said in a statement. “This generous donation helps us continue to provide Arkansans with the critical support they need after this disaster.”

The $50,000 donation comes in addition to a pledge Verizon made to employees to match individual donations of $25 to $1,000, the statement said.

The company is also waiving voice, data and text overage charges in May for customers in areas around Mayflower and Vilonia.
