Library system collects $7,200 for tornado relief

The Central Arkansas Library System earlier this month collected $7,223.58 in fines and donations to help those affected by the April 27 tornadoes, the system said.

The library system gave all fines for overdue library books collected between May 5 and May 12 to the nonprofit Arkansas Community Foundation's Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund, which was established to support organizations working on the ground in relief and recovery efforts, according to the statement.

Patrons were able to pay fines at circulation desks; at self-check stations or online. Those who didn't have overdue books could donate to the program by writing a check to the CALS Endowment Fund with "Tornado Relief Fund" in the memorandum line, the system said.
