Garland County authorities are searching Saturday for a man who they say fatally shot a woman and injured a man and a 20-month-old Wednesday.

Steven Swanigan, 30, is wanted on charges of capital murder and aggravated residential burglary in the shooting that left Mayela Mata dead, the Garland County sheriff's office Lt. James Martin said in a statement. Swanigan, described as 6 foot 2 and 180 pounds, was last seen about 5:45 a.m. Saturday morning at the Economy Inn at 820 E. Oak St. in Conway, from where he fled wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and blank pants, deputies said.

The shooting happened about 5 p.m. Wednesday at an apartment complex at 200 Springwood Road outside Hot Springs. Mata, 26, and a man whose identity has not been released were taken to a Hot Springs hospital, where Mata died and the man was treated and released, Martin said. The toddler was airlifted to a Little Rock hospital in stable-but-critical condition, but an update on the child's condition wasn't given Saturday.

The Garland County sheriff's office is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to Swanigan's arrest and conviction. Those with information on his whereabouts are urged to call 911 or the sheriff's office's anonymous tip line at (501) 622-3674. He is considered armed and dangerous and shouldn't be approached, deputies said.
