Police: 2 Sunday gas station robberies were 'similar'

Two central Arkansas gas stations were robbed Sunday, and police say both robberies occurred "under similar circumstances."

The Shell Superstop, located at 8604 Arkansas 107, in Sherwood was robbed about 12:44 a.m., Sherwood Police Department Lt. Jamie Michaels said.

According to Michaels, video footage shows the male robber wearing a sock on his right hand and a black and yellow hoodie with the word “Trojans” embroidered on the chest. The robber also displayed a semi-automatic handgun of an unknown caliber, he said.

Michaels said the robber was wearing the hoodie inside out when the robbery occurred.

The robber fled the scene in an unknown vehicle that was waiting for him on U.S. 67/167 south.

Michaels said a similar robbery occurred in Jacksonville late Sunday evening, "which [leads] investigators to believe the two crimes may be related."

The Jacksonville robbery occurred about 11:46 p.m. on Sunday at the Valero gas station at 2215 North First St., police said.

According to a Jacksonville police report, a clerk was ringing up a customer when a suspect described as a black male wearing a gray hoodie stuck the barrel of a black handgun in her back.

The report states that the robber asked the clerk where the money was, and the clerk opened the cash register drawer. The robber took the drawer and ran out of the store.

The clerk described the robber as standing approximately 5-feet-9-inches, weighing 150 to 160 pounds and wearing a gray hoodie and a black mask covering half of his face.
