Gov. Mike Beebe and Verizon director of business sales Jonathan Blitz announce Monday, May 5, 2014, that the company will add about 300 jobs in Arkansas.

Verizon on Monday announced it will add 300 jobs in Arkansas in a variety of positions, which the company hopes to fill by the end of the year.

Gov. Mike Beebe and Verizon director of business sales Jonathan Blitz were on hand at the state Capitol on Monday morning for the announcement. Most of the jobs will be based in Little Rock, but others will be added across the state, Blitz said.

Beebe said the new jobs will give more Arkansans and more families in the state an opportunity to be employed.

Of the 300 positions, 285 will be full time and the other 15 will be part-time jobs through various retail stores in the state, Verizon spokesman Ginger Daril said.

Blitz said the full-time positions — in tech support, retail and call center work — would come at a range of salaries. An open house for job candidates will be held Friday at Verizon's regional headquarters in Little Rock, and applicants can also go online to verizon.com/jobs, the company said.

Most of the positions will be in sales and customer service, Verizon said in a statement beforehand.

"The new opportunities represent growth," Blitz said. "[I'm excited about] what we've been able to do within the state of Arkansas. The growth opportunities are absolutely phenomenal."
