Memphis boy charged with sister's murder

MEMPHIS — Prosecutors have upgraded the charges against a 13-year-old Memphis boy accused of fatally shooting his sister in the head.

The Commercial Appeal reports the boy is now facing a murder charge in addition to felony reckless endangerment and tampering with evidence.

In an affidavit released Monday, prosecutors cited the boy's knowledge of firearms and his statement to police about altering the scene before rescue crews arrive.

Police say the girl had dared her brother to fire the gun April 21. She died three days later.

Police say they don't believe any adults were home when the shooting occurred and they are still reviewing why the siblings weren't in school.

The investigation is continuing.
