Thunderstorms expected in state Thursday afternoon

Thunderstorms entering the state from the west are expected to reach tornado clean-up areas in central Arkansas late Thursday afternoon or early evening then continue east into the overnight hours, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Little Rock, said in an email that while hail and damaging wind are possible with some of Thursday's storms, severe weather chances will likely remain west of a line from Texarkana to Mountain Home.

"We are not looking for a big episode of severe weather," he said.

On Friday morning, Robinson said, scattered storms could occur in the state during the morning, but the best chances for thunderstorms and isolated severe storms will likely occur in the late afternoon and evening hours.

The next chance for thunderstorms will be Sunday evening throughout the state, according to Robinson.

Rainfall totals from Thursday through the weekend should average 1 to 2 inches, while some areas in east and southeast Arkansas could receive up to 3 inches.
