Thursday storms forecast to hit tornado-cleanup areas

Thunderstorms are expected Thursday to reach areas cleaning up after the April 27 tornado, forecasters said.

Thunderstorms are expected to enter the state on Thursday and then head east, reaching tornado clean up areas by late afternoon, John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Little Rock, said in an e-mail.

The system will reach east Arkansas in the evening, forecasters said.

Robinson said some of the storms could potentially be severe, with damaging winds and large hail being the main severe-weather threats.

“While an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out this time of year, chances for tornadoes look to be rather low at this point,” he said.

The storms will probably continue in east Arkansas on Friday morning, and some scattered redevelopment of storms could take place in the state in the afternoon and evening, according to the forecast.

Robinson said the severe weather threat Friday will be greater than Thursday's.
