ARKADELPHIA — A judge has delayed the coming capital-murder trial for a man accused of killing an Arkadelphia man and his two young stepdaughters.

The trial for Riakos Lizana was set to begin May 28, but Circuit Judge Robert McCallum has granted a defense motion to delay proceedings. Lizana is accused in the December 2012 slayings of 4-year-old Marley Crutchfield, 6-year-old Adiele Crutchfield and the girls' stepfather, Bobby Jean Galbraith. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in the case.

Lizana sought a delay because he received new attorneys who wanted time to familiarize themselves with the case.

Lizana's trial is now set to begin Sept. 11, with pretrial hearings planned for May 22 and Aug. 8.
