MovieStyle: No peace and no quiet

“Neighbors, have I got neighbors?” ask the Rolling Stones in one of their least memorable songs, one that could (but doesn’t, even mediocre Rolling Stones’ songs are prohibitively expensive) serve as a kind of anthem for this week’s putative summer blockbuster, Judd Apatow protege Nick Stoller’s Neighbors.

“The very second we strive for immortality (having children) we become consumed with our mortality (getting old),” our Piers Marchant writes in his review of the surprising ambitious film which stars Seth Rogen and Zac Efron as cross-generational frenemies who end up living too close to each other.

Seth’s a new father, who’s straining for a responsible, grown-up life with his wife (Rose Byrne) and their new baby; Zac is the bro-hunk head of the fraternity next door who intends to keep the party going. That’s the setup. Be warned: It’s loud and lewd.

In other news, the Little Rock Film Festival kicks off next week, Dan Lybarger interviews Amir Bar-Lev, the director of Happy Valley, the documentary that opens off the fest Monday night. And MovieStyle editor Philip Martin assays the found-footage documentary Finding Vivian Maier.
