Summer Shed Tour, Worrell Orchestra hit LR

The First Security Amphitheater (formerly known as Riverfest Amphitheatre) is heating up central Arkansas' concert action with a pair of shows this weekend: TobyMac, Skillet and Lecrae tonight and R. Kelly with Tamar Braxton on Saturday night.

The Summer Shed Tour by contemporary Christian rock artists TobyMac, Skillet and Lecrae will also feature Capital Kings, Tedashii and We as Human. The show begins at 6 p.m.

R&B headliner R. Kelly, known for his crossover hit, "I Believe I Can Fly," will perform Saturday with Braxton opening the show at 8 p.m.

Braxton, the younger sister of Toni Braxton, recently released a new album, Love and War, and will host The Real, a new daily talk show in the fall on the Fox and BET networks.

The Bernie Worrell Orchestra will return to central Arkansas for a show at 9 p.m. Friday at the Revolution Room.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 the day of the show. Worrell, known as "The Wizard of Woo" and the original keyboardist of Parliament/Funkadelic, recently observed his 70th birthday by sitting in with Keith Emerson at MoogFest, which honored Robert Moog, inventor of the Moog synthesizer.

Worrell and his five-man ensemble recently finished recording Prequel, the followup to the group's 2013 album, BWO Is Landing. He has also released nine solo albums, the latest of which, Elevation, his first solo piano recording, came out in February.

He was featured in Jonathan Demme's Talking Heads concert film, Stop Making Sense.

Singer-songwriter Matthew Huff will perform Saturday, with Maybe April and Cheyenne Nicole opening the show at 8:30 p.m.

Admission will be $10 for those over 21 and $12 for those under age 21.

Duckstronaut, another band led by local musician Aaron Sarlo, will headline tonight's entertainment at the White Water Tavern.

The Coasts, who will open the 9:30 p.m. show, will donate sales of the band's new album, Racilla, to be released May 20, to the American Red Cross tornado relief efforts in Arkansas.

Cover charge is $5.

Saturday, the club will feature the Amasa Hines vinyl (All the World There Is) release show at 10 p.m.

Cover charge is $7.

Benjamin Del Shreve will perform at 8:30 p.m. today at Stickyz Rock 'n' Roll Chicken Shack.

Admission is $5. Del Shreve is a Fayetteville-area singer-songwriter who was once part of a duo with his brother, Randall, until they chose solo careers.

Friday, the club will feature Bear Colony and The See at a 9 p.m. show marking the anniversary of Thick Syrup Records, founded in Little Rock.

Admission is $7.

Juanita's will present Mayday Parade as headliner of a show Friday.

The 8 p.m. show will feature three opening acts: We Are the In Crowd, Transit and Divided by Friday.

Mayday Parade, a five-man band based in Tallahassee, Fla., is on tour promoting the band's fourth album, Monsters in the Closet, released in October. The group has recorded cover versions of Queen's "We Are the Champions" and Bush's "Comedown" for different compilation albums.

Maxine's in Hot Springs will host Little Rock singer-songwriter Kevin Kerby on Saturday.

Admission is $7 to the 9 p.m. show, which will open with a set by folk/jazz group the Jamie Lou Thies Band.
