Beebe requests to add counties to Arkansas disaster list

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe is asking that nine counties be added to President Barack Obama's disaster declaration due to severe storms on April 27.

The governor's office says a request was sent to the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Friday asking that Clay, Cleburne, Fulton, Independence, Izard, Jackson, Lawrence Randolph, Sharp and White counties be added to the list. Pulaski, Faulkner, Randolph and White counties were previously declared disaster areas.

Beebe has already issued state disaster declarations for the nine additional counties.

The storm spawned a tornado that's blamed for 16 deaths. Another 153 people were injured and the storm is blamed for an estimated $14 million in damage to public infrastructure.
