This article was published May 9, 2014 at 7:25 a.m.

LAMAR — Authorities in Johnson County say a man died after apparently slipping while cutting weeds near a pond in Lamar, hitting his head as he fell, then drowning.

The sheriff's office said 35-year-old Michael Mee was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon.

Family members reported finding Mee in the pond. The relatives pulled him to the bank and performed CPR, but a coroner pronounced him dead.

The sheriff's office said it appeared that Mee hit his head on a stump at the water's edge before falling into the water.

Such a sad story. Undoubtedly, no one else was around when the terrible accident happened, so he didn't stand much of a chance. I send my condolences and prayers out to his family, loved ones and friends.
