Showers, thunderstorms forecast for Friday

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop in the state Friday afternoon and evening, but the storms shouldn't be as extensive as Thursday's, forecasters said.

But, a few storms will probably be severe, producing damaging winds or large hail, National Weather Service meteorologist John Robinson said in an email.

The tornado-recovery areas in western Pulaski, Faulkner and White counties are most likely to see spotty storms from 1-7 p.m.

The afternoons and evenings Saturday and Sunday should also deliver a few storms to limited coverage areas, Robinson said. North Arkansas is forecast to see more widespread storms Saturday morning and afternoon. "Any severe storms should be small in number," Robinson said.

Rainfall totals through Sunday will be spotty, but some places will get 1/2 inch to 1 inch, he added.

The chances for thunderstorms increase Monday as a cold front sweeps across the state, pushing in a few severe storms with heavy rain in some areas, forecasters said.
