3 fire departments receive federal grants

Three fire departments in Arkansas have received grants from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to support firefighter safety.

U.S. Sens. Mark Pryor and John Boozman and U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin announced the grants Tuesday. The lawmakers say the grants will ensure that the local fire departments have the tools and equipment needed to do their jobs safely.

The Sherwood Fire Department will receive $49,500 for a compressor fill station, the Lone Rock Volunteer Fire Department in Norfork will receive $29,171 and the North Pulaski Protection District 15 in Jacksonville will receive $23,735.

The grants for Norfork and Jacksonville will pay for firefighter gear.
