State emergency management officials say residents who receive a letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency rejecting a request for disaster assistance should not give up their efforts or become discouraged.
Arkansas Department of Emergency Management State Coordinating Officer David Maxwell said the denial may mean more information is needed and residents who receive such letters should ask for a review of their situation.
Applicants also have the right to appeal a denial within 60 days from the date of the FEMA letter.
Disaster assistance is available in several counties hit by severe storms on April 27 that spawned a tornado blamed for 16 deaths in the state.
