Lawsuit filed over El Dorado plant blast

The operator of an El Dorado chemical plant that exploded in 2012 has filed a federal lawsuit in Oklahoma against a French company that supplied industrial gas for the facility.

El Dorado Chemical Co. is part of Oklahoma City-based LSB Industries Inc. The chemical company filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Air Liquide, claiming the supplier is responsible for more than $100 million in damages and losses because of the May 2012 blast.

According to The Oklahoman, the lawsuit accuses Air Liquide of negligence for failing to properly maintain oxygen pipes at the nitric acid plant in El Dorado. No one was injured in the explosion.

Air Liquide spokesman Heather Browne declined to comment on the lawsuit but said the company is committed to safety.
