Authorities say a Cordova, Tenn., man has been charged with arson after pouring gasoline throughout his house trying to burn it down.
Shelby County deputies say they responded about 4:30 a.m. Wednesday to a house fire at 6973 Show Boat Lane in the Memphis-area community of Cordova.
When they arrived, they found David Galloway, 57, in his backyard apparently intoxicated, naked from the waist down and armed with a shotgun, according to a Shelby County sheriff's office report. Deputies asked him to drop the gun, and he complied and then was arrested, the report states.
Deputies also found two dead dogs at the home. Galloway told deputies he had been arguing over the phone with his ex-girlfriend and became upset, according to the report. His dog then bit him on the hand, and he retrieved the shotgun from the attic and fatally shot the dog, the report states.
Galloway wrote Tuesday on his Twitter account that one of his dogs had been biting him and he posted pictures of his bite marks. One Twitter caption read, "This is what my dog just did to me. And I haven't killed him. Yet."
The other dog died previously and he had left it outside with the intention of burying it, according to the report. He wrote Monday on Twitter that his dog named Lady Marmalade had died in the night.
Deputies said the kitchen smelled strongly of gasoline and that Galloway admitted he had poured it throughout the house before igniting the couch and in an attempt to burn down his house.
After treatment at a hospital, Galloway was being held at the Shelby County jail on an arson charge in lieu of $25,000 bond.
