A 58-year-old North Little Rock man accused of shooting his wife in the chest early Tuesday morning has been arrested, jail records show.

Ernesto G. Anaya was booked into the Pulaski County jail about 1:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a roster of inmates posted online.

North Little Rock police on Wednesday identified Anaya as the suspect in the shooting of his wife after an argument at their home at 909 Cherry Hill Drive.

Evangelina Anaya, 52, was found in an upstairs bedroom with a gunshot wound in her upper chest, according to a police report. Her injury is described as a "major injury" in the report, though police spokesman Sgt. Brian Dedrick said Wednesday that she was believed to be stable at UAMS Medical Center.

Ernesto Anaya, who is being held without bail pending an initial court appearance, is facing charges of first-degree domestic battery and violation of a protection order. Dedrick said Evangelina Anaya had recently sought the protection order.
