Record low temperatures were recorded across central Arkansas on Thursday morning as cold air continued to push through the state.

In Little Rock, the morning's low temperature of 41 degrees was the chilliest ever recorded so late in the spring, breaking the previous record of 42 degrees set May 23, 1963, the National Weather Service of Little Rock said.

Neighboring North Little Rock set a record low for May 15 of 43 degrees, breaking the previous record of 48 degrees, set in 2011, and marking the third-lowest May temperature recorded since 1975, the meteorologists said.

A record low of 39 degrees in Jacksonville broke the previous record of 44 degrees set in 2011 and tied May 2 for the third-lowest May temperature recorded since 1956, the weather service said.

In Pine Bluff, a 107-year-old record low was broken when the mercury dropped to 42 degrees, and Malvern's reading of 39 degrees tied a record originally set in 1926, the weather service said.

Yesterday's high temperatures were on the low side Wednesday, when Mt. Ida recorded a high of only 56 degrees, which broke the previous record for chilliest high temperature on May 14, which was set in 1878, meteorologists added.
