State unemployment rate falls to 6.6 percent

The state's unemployment rate fell to 6.6 percent in April, down three-tenths of a percentage point from March, the Department of Workforce Services said Friday.

The civilian labor force decreased by 8,300 because of 5,100 fewer unemployed Arkansans and 3,200 fewer workers from March.

The 86,700 unemployed Arkansans in April marked a decline of 12,300 from the year before, the agency added.

There were 2,800 leisure and hospitality jobs added in April and 1,200 trade, transportation and utilities jobs added.

The national unemployment rate fell four-tenths of a percentage point to 6.3 percent in April.
