Deputies seek 2 in Spa City shooting

Garland County sheriff's deputies are searching for two men who they said shot another man Saturday morning, a department lieutenant said in a news release Sunday.

About 11:45 p.m., deputies were called to the 200 block of Rocky Reef Road in Hot Springs on a shooting. Minutes earlier, two men -- described only as black -- knocked on a door of one of the homes in the block and asked to use a phone because their car broke down, Lt. James Martin said.

The resident of the home, whom deputies didn't identify Sunday, went to help the two men, deputies said. Then, the two men tried to make their way inside the home, fighting with the resident, Martin said.

Deputies are unsure whether one or both of the suspects fired, but said Sunday that the victim was struck. The man was taken to an area hospital where he underwent surgery late Saturday and early Sunday, deputies said, adding they did not know his condition Sunday afternoon.

"At this point the motive is unclear but [it] does not appear to be a random act," Martin said in the release.

Further information was unavailable Sunday.
