Little Rock banking executive French Hill said Tuesday that he is confident he will win the Republican nomination for Arkansas's 2nd Congressional District.
Hill, the founder of Delta Trust & Banking Corp. who now serves as its chairman and chief executive officer, is vying for the seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin, a Republican who is running for lieutenant governor.
Retired U.S. Army Col. Colonel Conrad Reynolds and state Rep. Ann Clemmer of Benton are also seeking the Republican nomination.
Speaking Tuesday morning shortly before the polls were to open while waving to passing motorists at Kavanaugh Boulevard and Cantrell Road, Hill said he expects to win.
"I'm confident that we've put together a good team in all seven counties and worked hard the last six months and that we'll be victorious today," he said.
Hill said his business experience will help him bring "greater accountability" and work to "control government spending" if ultimately elected to the seat.
"I know how to get things done," he said.
Hill said he would spend the morning visiting different voting sites before voting himself and then making a series of calls to supporters.
Hill, who is making his first run for office, said the experience of campaigning has been positive.
"It's just been so much fun to meet so many people and go to towns and see things that I wouldn't have seen otherwise," he said. "And that's just been really rewarding."
