Man loses appeal in southwest Arkansas capital murder case

LITTLE ROCK — A man convicted of capital murder in the 1994 slaying of a Hot Springs man has lost an appeal before the Arkansas Supreme Court, in which he sought scientific testing of some of the evidence police collected.

The court ruled Thursday that 50-year-old David Ferrell failed to show that the trial judge in Hot Spring County was wrong to have denied his request for a new review of the evidence.

Ferrell was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole for the slaying of Paul Loyd, who was last seen while on the way to see Ferrell and another man. Loyd's brother said the meeting was arranged so Loyd could trade his motorcycle for drugs.

Loyd's body was found in a wooded area about six months after he vanished.
