Nine given wrong ballot, audit finds

Nine people who voted Tuesday at the Berryville Community Center were given the wrong ballots, the Carroll County Election Commission determined after an audit Thursday.

The nine voters should have received ballots for Kings River precinct but were given ballots for the Prairies/Cabanal precincts instead, according to a statement from the Election Commission.

"Since we do not know which ballots are involved, the results must stand," according to the commission. "We hereby certify that these nine incorrect ballots do not affect any races or change any winners."

Also, discrepancies involving precincts that vote at St. Elizabeth Parish Center in Eureka Springs were attributed to a mix-up of lists of electors, said Joanna Schuster, Carroll County's election coordinator.

"The headings that show which precincts the list of electors belonged to was illegible on the yellow copy that was turned in with the ballots," according to the commission's statement. "Once the issue was corrected, the number of electors recorded matched the number of ballots that we had received."

Commissioners met throughout the day Thursday to audit about 400 paper ballots because the number of voters on some lists of electors was different from the number of ballots cast in Tuesday's election, said Schuster.
