MORRILTON -- There may be a compromise in the question of whether chocolate milk should be distributed in Morrilton public schools next year, Superintendent Terry Humble has indicated. The Conway County Dental Society has asked the school to stop distributing chocolate milk to children under the government surplus foods program because of the high sugar content. The society said it was injurious to the teeth of the children. Milk suppliers have furnished a new formula containing saccharin instead of sugar. The children apparently couldn't tell the difference in a recent test, and the superintendent said he didn't think he could have if he had not been told in advance of the experiment.

• Monday's lottery at the Pulaski County Courthouse was only for a parking space, but employees acted as if it was worth millions. "I won, I won," said Josie Laster, Circuit Judge Jack L. Lessenberry's case coordinator, upon learning she had a week long pass to the municipal parking deck across the street at the Camelot Hotel. "When we sent that memo out, we had all three phone lines ringing," said Gina Floyd, an employee in County Judge Rita Gruber's office. "It was awful." A total of 121 employees had their names in a basket for a chance at one of the 60 parking spaces. The county has an equal number of spaces near the Broadway Bridge, but Riverfest will take that area over beginning today.

• Little Rock is better than average ... at being average. Of the 150 metropolitan areas that most closely resemble the nation's consumers as a whole, the population of Little Rock and North Little Rock comes in at 17th, according to rankings released today by Little Rock's Acxiom Corp. Adding a new twist to the term "mean streets," the data management company's study is meant to provide marketers with a list of the best test markets in the country. Got a new product but don't want to risk marketing it nationwide? Acxiom's list gives some good starting points.
