HONORED ALUMNI

UALR graduates honored at alumni, board luncheon

Jon T. Rymer, Tjuana Byrd and Mackie O'Hara, all graduates of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, were honored at lunch in the Great Hall of the Clinton Presidential Center on May 16. The awards were given by the UALR Alumni Association and the UALR Foundation Fund Board.

O'Hara, who graduated May 17, received the Edward L. Whitbeck Memorial Award, which is the highest award UALR gives a graduating student. Recipients are selected based on their civic engagement, leadership and scholarship. O'Hara is a Donaghey Scholar who majored in anthropology and graduated with 141 credit hours and a 4.0 grade point.

The President's Award is given to a UALR grad who combines career success with dedication to the university. Byrd, a lawyer, was this year's recipient. She has twice served as chairman of the UALR Foundation Fund Board of Directors and is a lifetime member of the alumni association.

Rymer received the Distinguished Alumni Award given to a former student who has achieved extraordinary distinction in his field. Rymer is the inspector general for the U.S. Department of Defense. He was unable to attend the luncheon due to a delayed flight, so accepting on his behalf was his friend, Frank Hall.
