2 new Ebola deaths confirmed in West Africa

CONAKRY, Guinea -- Health authorities in Guinea and Sierra Leone say two new deaths are confirmed to be from Ebola, taking the fatalities to 170 and raising fears that West Africa's first outbreak is not yet under control.

The new fatalities are far from where the outbreak began.

The officials said Monday that several other deaths are suspected to be from Ebola but have not yet been confirmed by tests.

Sierra Leone's Director of Disease Prevention Dr. Amara Jambai announced the country's first confirmed Ebola death was near Sierra Leone's border with Guinea.

Guinean officials said Monday that at least one new Ebola death was confirmed in Telimele, 167 miles from where the outbreak first occurred. Guinea also said it has eight new suspected Ebola deaths.
