The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has selected Lisa Bond-Maupin as the founding dean of its new College of Social Sciences and Communication, effective July 7, the university said Tuesday.

Bond-Maupin, who currently serves as the associate dean for planning and department affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, N.M., will receive an annual compensation of $158,000, UALR said.

The new College of Social Sciences and Communication is a part of the restructuring of academic colleges at UALR, said Judy Williams, the associate vice chancellor for communications and marketing. The college will comprise the School of Mass Communication; the rhetoric and writing; criminal justice; psychology; sociology and anthropology; and political science departments; and the Institute of Government, the university said..

The university regrouped departments to better serve students, she said.

“We did have six colleges and the law school, and now we have five colleges and the law school,” Williams said. The reorganization didn't alter the course offerings; instead, it consolidated departments, officials said

The five new colleges are: the College of Business; College of Education and Health Professions; College of Arts, Letters and Sciences; College of Social Sciences and Communications; and College of Engineering and Information Technology.

The restructuring goes into effect July 1.
