EDWARD BIBB JR., also known as “Sonny” to some, age 87, of Little Rock, was promoted to Heaven on Sunday, May 25, 2014.

He was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Hot Springs, to the late Edward Bibb Sr. and Thelma Breaux Bibb. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Bibb; his parents; his sister, Helen Carpenter; his brother, Donny Bibb; and his grandson, Joseph Wolff.

Edward was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, was of the Methodist faith and worked hard his entire life. He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, always showing his deep love and affection for all. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his love and memory will live on in each of their hearts forever.

He is survived by two daughters, Terri Vogelgesang and Cynthia Wolff; his son-in-law, Jerry Vogelgesang; his sisters, Betty Smith and Bonnie Hyatt; his grandchildren, Melvin Wolff and his wife, Sandra, and Melanie Vogelgesang; five great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, in Crestview Memorial Park, Hot Springs.

Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.

–––––•–––––PEGGY JACKS of Little Rock passed away after a short illness May 10, 2014 in West Jordan, Utah. She was born March 17, 1939, in North Little Rock, Ark. She is survived by her daughter, Andrea (Cal); granddaughters, Kristina and Ashley; and great-grandson, Jayden. She will join her husband, Benny, in their final resting place.

–––––•–––––JOSEPH R. “JOE” REED, age 84, of Little Rock passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014. He was born Feb. 15, 1930, in Fort Smith, Ark., to the late Walter S. and Sadie Correll Reed. He is preceded in death by his four brothers and three sisters, Bate Reed, Spencer Reed, Walter Reed Jr., Milburn Reed, Bessie Didier, Ina Didier and Mollie Wetherbee.

Joe grew up in Fort Smith, Ark., and graduated from Fort Smith High School, where he excelled in basketball and track. He attended Fort Smith Junior College and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville with an accounting degree.

He retired from the National Credit Union Administration where he worked for 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served as founder and president of the Breckenridge Neighborhood Association. He was a very active member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and served as an usher there for 48 years. He was also a Master Gardner, working on the Governor’s Mansion garden for 10 years. Joe was also an avid Razorback fan. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilma Hopkins Reed; his son, David Reed (Sharon), of Austin, Texas; and two grandchildren, Joe and Elizabeth. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was an animal lover and lover of nature.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Sipes.

He is survived by sons, Blake Sipes and Michael Moore; his mother, Mary Barber; brother, Larry Sipes (Shelia); sister, Joyce Cothern; niece, Jennifer Cothern; nephew, Clay Sipes (Liz); great-niece, Claire Spears; and great-nephew, Callen Sipes.

ARKADELPHIA — Pearl Childress Buck, age 99, of Arkadelphia passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014. She was born Aug. 4, 1914, the daughter of the late Tom and Emma Thomason Childress. She was a former member of the Ladies Sunday School Class at Faith Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward W. Buck; one daughter, Wanda Buck; three brothers, Otha, Roy, and Tillman Childress; two sisters, Margie Childress and Nell Wetherington; two step-sons, Laymon and Ydell Buck; and a step son-in-law, Luke Nichols.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna (Chuck) Burrow; step-daughter, Madge Nichols; grandchildren, Mark (Jenny) Coon, Amanda Coon (Allen) Karber, Debbie (John) Bryan, Teresa Buck, Cindy (Joe) Emerson, Sam Nichols; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Eunice Holder of California; and several nieces and nephews. –––––•–––––CABOT — Levetta Barker Wilson, born Aug. 23, 1944, left this earth on May 24, 2014, to go on a fishing date with her husband on Heavenly Ponds and enjoy the outdoors again. Levetta is survived by her children, Sherry Ward, Keith Wilson, Teresa Stuckey Hunt and Johnny Jr. Wilson; her numerous nieces and nephews that she considered her children. She has 15 grandchildren (one very dear to her heart); seven great-grandchildren that she loved like her own; two siblings, Margaret Morrow and Bobby Barker. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth R. Wilson; her mom, Ora Walsh; her dad, Lee Barker; and many others. Levetta was a loving and giving person; she never met a stranger. She always made sure that there was always room for more.

She loved life, earthly possessions meant nothing, and friends were like family and family was everything. “No fighting,” she would say, “Go outside, not in my house.”

She enjoyed fishing, hunting, friends and family above all. She loved to cook whomever’s favorite dessert or meal just to see them smile. She loved to laugh and see everyone enjoy the simple pleasures. She was a God loving woman. A church she would say is not a building, it was the people and they could serve God wherever they were. She was an upfront person who told you the truth whether you wanted to hear it or not.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2014, at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

–––––•–––––CENTER RIDGE — Doy E Bryant, age 86, of Center Ridge, Ark., passed away Monday, May 26, 2014. He was born Feb. 2, 1928, in Center Ridge, the sixth child of the late Eli Harvey Bryant and Mary Jane Epperson Bryant. He served in the Air Force for 22 years and retired as Senior Chief Master Sergeant. Doy was an avid High School sports fan and supported the Nemo Vista Red Hawks, never missing a game. He was an Electrician, a farmer and a huge supporter of Higher Education.

He was survived by four sisters, Faye McCoy of Dexter, Mo., Murriel Dixon of Morrilton, Betty Louise Flowers (Jay) of Center Ridge, and Nina Scroggins of Center Ridge; one brother, Jim Bryant (Pam) of Morrilton; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wallwork Bryant; four sisters, Marvell Noaks, Bertie Flowers, Thomasa Oliger and Mary Sutton; and two brothers, Afton Bryant and Hubert Bryant. –––––•–––––EL DORADO — Theodosia Murphy Nolan, 96, of El Dorado, Ark., passed away on May 24, 2014.

Mrs. Nolan was born in El Dorado on Aug. 25, 1917, the child of Charles Haywood Murphy and Bertie Wilson Murphy. She attended El Dorado High School, Gulf Park Academy in Gulfport, Miss., and the University of Texas in Austin. She married William Conlin Nolan, of El Dorado on March 11, 1936. They were married 68 years, until Mr. Nolan’s death on June 30, 2004.

In 1946, Mrs. Nolan, along with her brother, Charles H. Murphy Jr., and two sisters, Caroline Keller Winter and Bertie Deming Smith, founded C. H. Murphy and Company, the predecessor of Murphy Oil Corporation, Murphy USA and Deltic Timber Company.

Mrs. Nolan’s life was characterized above all by a spirit of selfless devotion to her large, multigenerational extended family, starting with her mother and father and three siblings; and including her four children and their families; 12 grandchildren and their families; and 29 great-grandchildren. On the birthday of each child, grandchild and great grandchild she called to recite the birthday prayer from the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.

Mrs. Nolan’s contributions in preserving and enhancing Arkansas’ and Louisiana’s culture and heritage were great. She was a founder of the South Arkansas Arts Center and a founding board member of the Historic Preservation Alliance of Arkansas, by whom she was awarded the Parker Westbrook Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2010. She served as a Commissioner of the Arkansas Arts Council for 20 years. In 1972, Mrs. Nolan undertook a restoration of her paternal grandfather’s antebellum home Cherokee Plantation, on the Cane River in Natchitoches, La. Her meticulous, loving restoration of Cherokee led to its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places.

Cherokee has been the location of numerous family and community gatherings.

Mrs. Nolan was preceded in death by her husband, William Conlin Nolan; her son William Conlin Nolan Jr.; and her brother, Charles Haywood Murphy Jr. She is survived by her two sisters, Caroline Keller Winter and Bertie Deming Smith of Alexandria, La.; three of her four children, Dr. Charles Murphy Nolan of Seattle, Wash. (Eleanor), Robert Calvert Nolan of El Dorado (Candi) and Theodosia (Tia) Nolan Roddy of New Orleans (James); 12 grandchildren, Diane Nolan Landen (James), William C. Nolan III (Carla), Jeffrey W. Nolan (Cara), Mary Nolan Ozburn (Christopher), Caroline Nolan Probst (Bradley), Raymond W. Nolan (Liza), Charles Tatum Nolan, Robert C. Nolan Jr. (Lenka), Carrie Elizabeth Nolan, Justin M. Nolan, Peter D. Tattersall Jr., Theodosia Nolan Grant (Chip); and 29 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at First United Methodist Church in El Dorado with Rev. Keith Dodson and Rev. Dr. Christoph Keller III officiating. A private burial will follow the service.

He was born Dec. 7, 1936, in England, Ark., son of Edgar L. and Viola Davidson Bost. Mr. Bost was reared and received his early education in Wright, graduating from Plum Bayou High School. He worked for Simmons First National Bank in Sherrill for 35 years, retiring as assistant vice president and loan officer in the Agriculture Division. Mr. Bost was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dumas. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Ernestine O’Callaghan Bost, whom he married Feb. 19, 1955, in England, Ark.; two brothers, John A. Bost and Edgar L. Bost, both of Pine Bluff; and sister, Bessie Eskew of Missouri.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2014, in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Dr. Tandy Hanson officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

He was born Sept. 12, 1952, in Memphis, Tenn., the son of Jake and Lorene (Callaway) Breeding. He was a Clarendon High School graduate of 1970 and was the Social Director for Arbor Oaks Nursing and Rehab.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Stanley of Malvern; parents, Jake and Lorene Breeding of Branson, Mo.; son, Brad Breeding (Elena) of Waco, Texas; daughters, Amanda Martin (Michael) of Magnet Cove and Carla Stanley of Hot Springs; sister, Wanna Bauer (Jerry) of Branson, Mo.; grandchildren, Katelyn, Lauren, Jacob, Corey, Annabelle, David, April and Aleshia; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Tyler; and numerous nieces and nephews; and cousins.

–––––•–––––MONTICELLO — Hugh Charles “Grumpy” Smith, age 69 of Monticello, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2014, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello. He was born July 28, 1944 in Lake Village, Ark., to the late Hugh Benton Smith and Jewell Simpson Smith Kennedy.

He was a retired director of vinyl binding from the Arkansas Department of Correction and was a very active member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught training union for many years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and also enjoyed yard work, hunting and fishing. Mr. Smith loved serving people through his church, sincerely loved the Lord and spent many hours in prayer. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Vickie Ann Sharp; his father-in-law, Red Davis; and a brother-in-law, James Britton.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Vicky Davis Smith of Monticello; one son, Davis Hugh Smith and wife Wendy of White Hall; one daughter, Anna Smith Jones and husband Rick of Monticello; one granddaughter, Ashlynn Hope Smith of White Hall; three grandsons, Alan and Arron Jones of Monticello and Davis Smith II of White Hall; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Davis of Monticello; two sister-in-laws, Ann Willingham and husband Robert and Sue Britton all of Dermott; two nephews, Danny Medford of Lake Village and Jason Britton of Crossett; one niece, Amiee Britton of Dermott; and his very special pet dog, Baby.

–––––•–––––REDFIELD — Ronald Gene Rogers, 65, of Redfield died peacefully at home May 25, 2014. He was our “Ron,” our Daddy, beloved son and brother. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, history buff, and he loved to read.

Ron won the State Championship Black Powder Shoot in Arkansas and several out of state. He was a licensed pilot before his illness. He loved to fly for fun, especially when he could take his mom and sister up with him. He graduated from Memphis State University with a degree in theology. He served as a superintendent for Halliburton for years, traveling to Guam, Columbia, Japan and Canada, working with fiber optics.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Rogers; and a brother, Jerry Gandy.

He is survived by the love of his life and caregiver, Marie Bryant; two cherished daughters, Tonya Shaw (Jerry) and Angel Taylor of Hensley; his mother, Betty Gandy; a sister, LouAnn Oates (Bill); three stepchildren, Lisa Clark, Stephen Bryant and Jared Bryant, all of Redfield; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 1 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014, at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home Chapel, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark. 72211. Phone: (501) 224-8300. Rev. Don Cooper will officiate. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Frederick Scott Krug, age 49, of Colorado Springs, Colo., formerly of Little Rock, Ark., passed into the arms of Christ on May 18, 2014, after a sudden and brief illness caused from liver failure. Scott was born on Nov. 18, 1964, in Little Rock, Ark., where he lived until 1993. He is survived by his daughter, Carlie Krug and her mother, Razelle Doherty, both of Colorado Springs; parents, Tad and Judy Krug of Little Rock, Ark.; sister and brother-in-law, Julie and Lee Dilworth; and nephews, Jack and Fred, all of Nashville, Tenn.; and many, many friends. All truly loved him.

Scott had a successful 21 year career with IBM, beginning as a Field Engineer for NORAD, in 2000 as a Certified Project Manager for McData Corporation, followed by CYSCO Systems, and most recently as a Project Management Professional for, AT&T. He enjoyed assisting other IBM Project Managers in achieving their Project Management Professional Certification. The light of Scott’s life was his daughter, Carlie; she was his world and he was her hero. Scott also loved family gatherings and his dogs Alex and Bonnie. Being in the mountains, camping and fishing inspired and filled his spirit. He was a mountain man through and through .

Scott was a child of GOD, devoted father, cherished son, dearly loved brother, uncle, and loyal friend. He opened his home on numerous occasions to friends and family needing a place to live, and was a stand-in father figure to several teenagers. His unconditional love and tender heart for others will forever define his life. A celebration of Scott’s life will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 2, at Fellowship Bible Church, 1401 Kirk Road, Little Rock, Ark.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Scott’s name to the Wounded Warriors Project.
