The City of Little Rock announced Wednesday that Kenton Buckner, pictured, will be the new chief of police for the Little Rock Police Department.

Kentucky lawman Kenton Buckner has been chosen as Little Rock's next police chief, city officials announced Wednesday.

Buckner, 45, will replace Stuart Thomas who is retiring June 27. His first day on the job will be June 30, a city of Little Rock news release states.

Buckner started his career in 1993 as a police officer with the Louisville Metro Police Department and has spent the last five years as the department's assistant chief, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette previously reported.

Buckner was chosen over Little Rock’s assistant chief of police, Eric Higgins, and John Ray, executive chief deputy of Tarrant County sheriff’s office in Fort Worth, Texas.

Read Thursday's Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for full details.

You mean to tell me of all the qualified people in the little rock police department we couldn't find one to take the job? as in everything else we had to go out of state and pay way too much money.
