Stretch of Arkansas River Trail to close Friday

A small stretch of the Arkansas River Trail in North Little Rock will close all day Friday as workers build a new Shilcutt Bayou Bridge, the city said in a statement.

The section to close sits between the Burns Park Golf Course and the area beneath Emerald Park, the city said.

“Although this is only a minor section there is no alternate route for pedestrians or bicycles,” city officials said.

The city has posted signs at several spots along the trail to warn users they won’t be able to pass because of the construction.

Metroplan announced in 2013 that North Little Rock would receive $544,000 in federal funds to replace the bridge; the federal aid comes with a requirement of a 20 percent local match, according to North Little Rock City Council documents.

The closure bumps up the scheduled bridge-work completion date from August to July 3, North Little Rock Parks and Recreation said in a Facebook post.
