Arkansas State University-Mountain Home’s Stream Team is hosting a free, two-day electronic waste recycling drive in June, the university said.

Businesses, schools, nonprofit groups and residents are invited to drop off electronics — such as computers, printers, TVs, DVD players, phones, stereos, electronic cables and small appliances — from 2-6 p.m. June 13 and 8 a.m.-2 p.m. June 14, ASU-Mountain Home said.

Large quantities of waste will be accepted by appointment June 13. Businesses that wish to drop off a lot of electronics must have waste palletized and shrink-wrapped or must provide the manpower required to unload the haul, the school said. A forklift will be available to help.

Residents should drop off their electronic waste June 14 on a first-come, first-served basis, the school said.

The university said only about 18 percent of electronics are recycled in the United States, and the rest are deposited in landfills though they often contain chemical compounds known to negative affect health.

The electronic waste drive is sponsored by the university, the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, Ozark Mountain Solid Waste, Baxter County, Start 2 Start Recycling and Baxter Day Service.
