Jason Boland & the Stragglers, who have built up a devoted central Arkansas fan base, return to the Rev Room for a show Friday night.
The 9 p.m. show will open with a set by Swampbird.
Boland started his band with one of his Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity brothers at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater in 1998. Now based in Austin, Texas, Boland and his band released their seventh album, Dark & Dirty Mile, in May 2013.
Admission is $15.
A pair of central Arkansas DJs -- Lawler & Ewell -- will celebrate their sixth annual birthday bash with an 8 p.m. Saturday show joined by a pair of Dallas DJs -- Joe C. and Teezy -- and Sam Bradford.
Admission is $5 for women and $10 for men.

The Green Seed will perform Friday night at the White Water Tavern.
Based in Birmingham, Ala., The Green Seed is a four-person hip-hop group, whose front man is MC R-Tist. Southern Living magazine named it the "Southern band to watch" in May 2012, praising the outfit as akin to "classic nineties hip-hop with a socially conscious message."
The Green Seed's video of its song, "Crack Kills," has been hailed as an attack on consumerism.
Opening the show will be Joshua Asante, lead guitarist and singer in two local bands, Velvet Kente and Amasa Hines, the latter of which released a debut album, All the World There Is, earlier this year.
Admission for the 9 p.m. show is $6.
Saturday, the club will feature Lightnin' Malcolm, a perennial favorite at the club.
Malcolm, a blues guitarist hailed for his raw country sound, is known for his occasional performances with some of his north Mississippi hill country neighbors, the North Mississippi All Stars, Cameron Kimbrough and Cedric Burnside.
Admission for the 10 p.m. show is $7.

Between the Buried and Me will headline Friday night's show at Stickyz Rock 'n' Roll Chicken Shack.
The show will open at 8:30 p.m. with a set by Trioscapes.
Between the Buried and Me is a North Carolina band that mixes a variety of metal rock styles: progressive metal, death metal, metalcore and thrash metal. The band has said that its influences include Metallica, Pink Floyd, The Smashing Pumpkins, Queen and King Crimson.
Admission is $20.
Saturday, the club will feature Randall Shreve & The Sideshow. Formed in Little Rock, Shreve and his band call its sound "vaudeville rock" and cite as their influences Queen, Jeff Buckley and The Beatles. Shreve released two solo CDs before forming a band, which released its debut album, The Jester, in 2011.

Juanita's will present Hawthorne Heights tonight. The 9 p.m. show will also feature three opening acts: On My Own, Consumers and More Than Sparrows.
Hawthorne Heights is an alternative rock band formed in Dayton, Ohio, in 2001 (and originally named A Day in the Life, after a song by The Beatles). Led by singer J.T. Woodruff, the group has survived the death of a member and legal battles with a record label.
Admission is $15.
Saturday, the club will host Brian Posehn with Angry Patrick and Michael Brown opening the show at 9 p.m.
Posehn is a musician, comedian and actor who has had roles in the TV shows Just Shoot Me!, Mission Hill and The Sarah Silverman Show. He has also written comic books, done stand-up comedy and hosts a podcast, Nerd Poker.

Maxine's in Hot Springs will host a CD release show by Hot Springs band Landrest at 9 p.m. today. Admission is free.
Friday night, the club will present Mya's Madams, a drag show, at 9 p.m. Admission is $7.
Saturday, there will be a Hot Springs Craft Beer Fest after-party, featuring four acts: Leaky Roof Meadery, Ben Franks, the Bible Belt Boys and Amy Jo Savannah.
Admission is $7 for the 9 p.m. show.
