Rain, thunderstorms expected today

Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected for much of the state Thursday as a system moves through Arkansas, the National Weather Service said.

The agency said the upper-level low-pressure system would bring increased chances for storms as the day progresses, though no significant outbreak of severe weather is likely.

"But some gusty winds and localized heavy rainfall may be possible with some of the stronger thunderstorms," the weather service said in a statement.

In Little Rock, the chance of precipitation is pegged at 80 percent with a 1/4 inch to a 1/2 inch of rain possible Thursday.

The same system will bring more rain and thunderstorm chances, including localized heavy rainfall, through the weekend, the weather service said. But, it noted, a "widespread flash flood concern" is not expected.
