Fox News Sunday readies for Cotton

Senator-elect to talk Capitol gridlock

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton is scheduled to appear on Fox News Sunday today.

Cotton and U.S. Rep. James Lankford, R-Okla., who were both elected to the Senate earlier this month, will talk about issues they hope to address and how to end gridlock in Washington, according to the show's website.

Fox News Sunday, hosted by reporter Chris Wallace, is shown in Little Rock on KLRT at 10 a.m., in Fort Smith on KFTA at 8 a.m., and on Memphis-based station WHBQ at 10 a.m.

PHOTO CONTEST

U.S. Sen. John Boozman is holding an online photo contest featuring photos of or about Arkansas.

Entrants have until Thursday to share photos of Arkansas by tagging their Instagram photos using the hashtag #Love4AR and @johnboozman. The most popular photo will be displayed in Boozman's office in Washington, D.C., until the end of the year.

BACK ON THE HILL

Members of the U.S. House and Senate returned to Washington on Wednesday for a brief lame-duck session that is scheduled to end Dec. 11.

On Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin met with representatives from the South Arkansas Developmental Center for Children and Families to discuss issues facing individuals with developmental disabilities.

He met with Arkansas representatives from the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors on Thursday to discuss tax reform and regulatory issues.

On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Rick Crawford met with National 4-H President Jennifer Sirangelo.

STEERING COMMITTEE

On Friday, U.S. Rep. Steve Womack was elected as a regional representative on the House Steering Committee, the group of House members who determine committee assignments for all House members.

Womack's job as a regional representative is to petition for committee assignments on behalf of the delegations from Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

"My job will be to advocate for my members and their requests for certain committee assignments," he said.

CONSULTANT

State Rep. John Burris, R-Harrison, will continue to do political contract work for Cotton, he announced last week.

Burris was the political director for Cotton's U.S. Senate campaign and will be helping with Cotton's transition from the House to Senate.

Burris will also join Capitol Advisors Group, a Little Rock government relations firm, as a senior partner. He will focus on expanding the firm's health policy consulting practice both in Arkansas and in Washington, D.C.

WAL-MART IN WASHINGTON

The Wal-Mart Foundation made a $10,000 donation to Unity Health Care Inc., the organization announced last week. The donation will provide 1,000 children with backpacks full of school supplies, according to a news release.

On Tuesday, Wal-Mart announced it had hired 2,987 veterans for jobs in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia in the first 18 months of its Veterans Welcome Home Commitment program.
