'TED Talks'

The Central Arkansas Library System will screen 11 so-called "TED Talks" (Technology, Entertainment and Design), during a lunchtime session, "Lunch With TED," noon-2 p.m. Wednesday in the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock.

The talks include "Choice, Happiness and Spaghetti Sauce" by Malcolm Gladwell, "Remember to Say 'Thank You'" by Laura Trice, "Less Stuff, More Happiness" by Graham Hill, "Embracing Otherness, Embracing Myself" by Thandie Newton and "4 Lessons in Creativity" by Julie Burstein. Jeff Clements, co-founder and chairman of the board of Free Speech For People, a national nonpartisan campaign to overturn the so-called "Citizens United" case, challenge excessive corporate power, and strengthen American democracy and republican self-government, will give a lecture titled "Corporations Are Not People," 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sturgis Hall, Clinton School of Public Service, 1200 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock. Perfect Machine

The University of Central Arkansas' Digital Filmmaking program will screen Perfect Machine, UCA graduate student Jarrod Beck's 23-minute science-fiction film about a man's attempt to free himself from the control of a totalitarian society, at 7 p.m. today in the Donald W. Art and gingerbread

Friday is the deadline for students in grades pre-K through 5 to submit entries in Treatment Homes Inc.'s Holiday Coloring Contest.

Download a coloring sheet at treatmenthomes.org; mail the completed picture to Treatment Homes Inc., P.O. Box 1400, Little Rock, Ark. 72203.

There is no entry fee; Treatment Homes will award prizes to the winners in three categories: pre-K-1, grades 2-3 and grades 4-5. The winning entries will be on display along with the entries to the Gingerbread House Decorating Competition during the 27th Gingerbread Extravaganza, 1-4 p.m. Dec. 14 at the state Capitol on Woodlane Street.

Gingerbread house kits -- $10 small, $20 medium and $30 large -- are available for pickup at the Treatment Homes office, 700 W. Fourth St., Little Rock. (Mickey Mouse and Hello Kitty character kits are $20.)

There is no entry fee. Entry deadline is Dec. 5; entrants must deliver the houses to the state by 9 a.m. on Dec. 14. Judges will select winners in grades K-3, 4-6, 7-12, adults and teams. Visit the website, treatmenthomes.org.
