Blytheville woman dies in 4-vehicle crash on icy I-55

One driver was killed and three others hurt in a four-vehicle crash on an icy Interstate 55 early Monday, authorities reported.

Arkansas State Police said it started when a southbound 2003 Jeep driven by 38-year-old LaTonya Harvey of Blytheville lost control on the ice about 4:30 a.m. near the Blytheville exit.

A southbound 2000 Toyota driven by 61-year-old Cynthia A. Simmons of Blytheville then hit the Jeep and spun onto the shoulder, police said.

A 2000 Nissan driven south by 24-year-old Avery Jackson of Blytheville then lost control on the ice and stopped in the right-hand lane before being hit by a southbound 2006 Volvo driven by 42-year-old Anthony Green of Sikeston, Mo. The Volvo then hit the Toyota.

Simmons suffered fatal injuries, police said. The three other drivers each suffered unspecified injuries and were taken to Great River Medical Center in Blytheville.

The death was the 413th in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
