Impersonator of Alison Krauss returns to court

FAYETTEVILLE — A New Mexico woman who pleaded guilty to swindling an elderly Fayetteville man while impersonating country singer Alison Krauss was arraigned Wednesday on a failure to appear charge related to an attempt to revoke her probation because she didn't return the victim's cars.

Peggy Sue Evers pleaded guilty in January to theft by deception.

Washington County Circuit Court Judge Mark Lindsay sentenced Evers to eight years of probation and ordered her to pay $72,800 restitution, sign the man’s home back over to him and return four vehicles.

Evers, 53, went home to New Mexico and never returned the vehicles, according to prosecutors. She failed to show up for her revocation hearing. Evers pleaded not guilty Wednesday to the failure to appear charge and was given a Jan. 28 trial date. Evers also has a mental evaluation set for Jan. 15.
