Rain expected through weekend, forecasters say

Showers and thunderstorms are expected throughout the state this weekend, forecasters say.

The southern half of the state will see showers starting late Thursday night, National Weather Service meteorologist John Robinson said in an email.

Shower coverage will increase over the state Friday but then diminish as the evening progresses, he said.

Saturday, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected, especially in the afternoon and evening.

“Best chances for showers and thunderstorms, however, will be from late Saturday night into Sunday,” Robinson said. “Rain could be heavy at times during this time frame.”

Rainfall from Thursday night into Sunday will average 3/4 inch to 1 3/4 inches, and local totals will be in the 2- to 3-inch range, he said.
