Windstream to cut 38 jobs in Arkansas

350 layoffs nationwide

Windstream Holdings Inc. said Thursday it will lay off 350 employees nationwide, including 38 in Arkansas.

The Little Rock telecommunications company said the layoffs are effective Dec. 1. The layoffs in Arkansas will primarily affect employees in Little Rock, the company said.

Windstream employs about 13,000 workers nationwide and 1,300 in Arkansas.

This is not the first time the company has cut positions this year.

Windstream said in February it would cut about 400 jobs nationwide, including 67 in Arkansas, by March. Windstream also eliminated between 375 and 400 workers in 2012 as part of restructuring.

“We continue to make progress simplifying processes, integrating PAETEC systems and improving operations to drive efficiencies,” said Jeff Gardner, president and chief executive officer of Windstream.

“Today’s actions are difficult, but necessary to effectively manage costs. While we are eliminating certain roles across the company, we continue to invest in strategic areas of our business to grow revenue, better serve customers and create value for shareholders.”
