State's unemployment rate falls to 6 percent

Arkansas's unemployment rate fell to 6 percent in October, the Department of Workforce Services said Friday.

The rate, which was 6.2 percent in September and 7.6 percent in October 2013, reflects an increase of 9,400 employed Arkansans and 2,000 fewer unemployed Arkansans, the agency said.

An increase of 6,600 non-farm payroll jobs was recorded in October with 3,100 jobs added in government, 1,500 added in manufacturing and 1,000 added in professional and business services.

U.S. unemployment in October fell to 5.8 percent, down from 5.9 percent the month before and 7.2 percent the year before.
