Walton to host touring Elf; ASO to kick off 2015 series

NETworks Presentations' touring production of Elf the Musical (songs by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, book by Tony Award winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, based on the 2003 film) will be onstage at 7 p.m. Tuesday and 2 and 7 p.m. Wednesday in Baum Walker Hall of Fayetteville's Walton Arts Center, 495 W. Dickson St., Fayetteville. The show is part of the center's Kimberly-Clark Family Fun Series.

Sugar Plum tea

Western Arkansas Ballet will hold its Sugar Plum Fairy Tea, 2:30-4:30 p.m. today at Riverfront Pavilion, 100 N. B St., Fort Smith. Admission is $25, which includes desserts and snacks; Nutcracker and Christmas crafts; and the opportunity for children to take photos with the Sugar Plum Fairy, the Cavalier, Clara and the Nutcracker Prince from the ballet's production of The Nutcracker, 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13 and 2:30 p.m. Dec. 14. Blonde auditions

Rogers Little Theater will hold auditions for Legally Blonde the Musical -- music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin, book by Heather Hach, based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the 2001 movie -- at 7 p.m. Dec. 8 for young female roles; 7:45 for older female roles; 8:15 for young male roles and 8:45-9 for older male roles at the Victory Theater, 116 S. Second St., Rogers.

Auditions will consist of readings from the script, singing music from the show and a dance combination. An audition packet, including the audition scenes, character descriptions and music, will be available online after Dec. 1 at rogerslittletheater.org (click on "Auditions"). The auditions will be open only for those trying out. Dance and reading callbacks will take place at 7 p.m. Dec. 9.

INC series

The Arkansas Symphony Orchestra will kick off its 2015 Intimate Neighborhood Concerts series, partnering with Opera in the Rock to perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's opera The Magic Flute, 7 p.m. Jan. 22-23 at the Albert Pike Memorial Temple, East Seventh and Scott streets, Little Rock.

• March 12: "Night Serenades," St. James United Methodist Church, 321 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock. Lorraine Duso-Kitts, oboe. Family bluegrass

Normandy, Tenn.-based family bluegrass band the Rigneys -- father Mark, banjo and vocals; mother Melissa, upright bass; son Andrew, guitar and vocals; and son Grant, mandolin and fiddle -- will perform at 7 p.m. Monday at the Collins Theatre, 120 W. Emerson St., Paragould, part of radio station KASU-FM, 91.9's Bluegrass Monday concert series. The station will literally "pass the hat" to pay the musicians. Suggested donation is $5 per person. Vocal scholarship

International operatic soprano Kristin Lewis, an Arkansas native and University of Central Arkansas graduate, is establishing of a new scholarship for emerging Arkansas singers studying inside and outside the state.

The Kristin Lewis Foundation Vocal Scholarship, for Arkansans ages 18-23 pursuing a degree in vocal performance or a music education or bachelor's degree with an emphasis in voice, will fund tuition expenses, master-class participation and opportunities for national or international exposure.

Application deadline is Feb. 4. An application and a list of rules and regulations are available online at kristin-lewis.com/klf/. The foundation will choose 15 singers for the second phase of the competition, a live audition and training program March 28-29 at UCA in Conway.

Lewis will perform in an Advent celebration concert with Second Presbyterian Church's Adult Choir at 4 p.m. Dec. 7 at the church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock. The concert is sponsored by Praeclara, the church's newly formed performing arts organization. Admission is free; donations to the scholarship fund can be made to any member of the foundation's board members at the event.
